Many years ago, one of my earliest postings on DailyKos so pi$$ed off readers, I was banned from further posting my comments. I had to beg the powers that be to let me post again going forward; I had to pledge to behave and not call any Republican a Nazi.
Fast forward a decade or more and here we are, trying our hardest to avoid Trump remaking our fair nation into a New Third Reich. Those of you who read DailyKos regularly - and I had to beg to be put back on their email distribution list last week; Deja vu all over again - will recognize the references in this posting.
As was reported here on Kos, Steve Bannon - The Grim Reaper - has admitted that Trump’s appointees have beenchosen for their ability and willingness to dismantle our government, Cabinet department, by Cabinet department, and then move further down the government organization chart.
Are we, as Democrats and Progressives, or plain old citizens of a nation which gives us so many freedoms, simply going to sit back and let it happen? What was that saying about the Nazis in Germany? Ah yes, it was from a poem written by German Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis’ rise to power:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
Are we really going to allow this to happen?
Trump has assembled all the tools [roadblocks] necessary to completely dismantle everything that We, the People, spent the last 241 years building. His choice for the Attorney General, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, is an admitted racist, with [most likely] a closet full of white sheets, carefully tailored to allow views of his narrow-minded world. His Congress, which is now overwhelmingly Republican, can and most likely will reject any and all attempts to Impeach him. They will most likely impede attempts to use special prosecutors to handle the various investigations currently in play. They will be directed to find no treason in his many dealings with Russia and Putin.
The result will be a nation that — prior to this travesty of a POTUS — welcomed immigrants of all sizes, shapes, colors, religions, and the like, to join us in moving the future of our nation and the Human Race forward to a greater peace and prosperity. Instead, the U. S. will become an empire ruled by a [hold onto your thesaurus] megalomaniac, with sociopathic racist, bigoted, misogynistic tendencies, compounded by being a pathological liar, an anti-Semite, and admitted sexual abuser who is proud of it.
Wait, you say, his daughter is married to a Jewish guy! Simply a token, so he can say some of his best friends are... or we have one in the family… choose your trite phrase here.
The bottom line is that we - all of us together - cannot allow this to continue. Remember, United We Stand, or separately we fall apart.
